Thriller as a genre.

The aim of a Thriller is to keep the audience alert and on edge. The genre revolves around suspence. The narrative often includes some sort of mission, escape or mystery. Its more than certain that the main tension is hightened to reach maximum climax this being the most anticipating part.

Examples of sub genres.

Action Thriller

This typical sub genre uses physical action within to create the feeling of suspense, there is often a consiqunce involving a protagonist, antagonist and damsel in distress. The action usually includes stunts, fight scenes, chases and battles. An example of this would be Taken.

Science Fiction Thriller

This sub genre includes science based themes into the plot. Its typical for them to include protagonists, antagonists, undiscovered life, technology and quests. The narrative often includes alien invasions and disease take overs.

Crime Thriller

This focuses on the criminals and their plans or activities leading upto an event. It's common for the narrative to show the audience 'where it all started'. Crime thriller often empahsises the action over the psychological side to it. The narrative is likely to include robberies, murders, chases and fight scenes or shoot outs.

Disaster Thriller

Disaster thriller often follws a certain person or group throughout the narrative in some sort of disaster which may include an earthquake, tsunami, hurricane or volcanic eruption. Many films often emphasise human extinction for example in the film 2012. As the audience we often get an idea of what the future could possibly be like.

Religious Thriller

In religious thrillers the narrative is more than likely to be driven by an object or ridel. They often show a conflic between good and evil, good always being triumphant thoughout the quest.
