Some media key terms

Distributions and marketing
The business consisting of getting films to their audiences through booking them to run in cinemas. Distributions create the marketing campaign for films producing posters, trailers, websites and press packs for example, distributors use their know how and size to ensure that DVDs of the film end up in stores and on the shelves. They try get films released at the peak time of the year. Also, the obtain the BBFC certificate.

Exhibition
Showing films through DVD or cinema. Gets media attention through opening nights and premiers. Its also bout how the audience can see the film for example in cinema, at home and through download, During the opening weeks audience reviews are taken in. Those include; film critics, ordinary people, the Oscars etc...

Exchange
This is the unintended use of an institutions media text by other people who use the film or parts of it to create new texts. Its also what happens to a film etc after the public get their hand on it using digital technology.

Vertical and horizontal integration
Absorption into a single firm of several firms involved in all aspects of  a products manufacture from raw materials distribution.

Synergy/Synergies
The interaction of two or more agents (companies) to ensure a larger effect than if they acted independently. This is beneficial; for each company through efficiences in expertise and costs.

Media Convergence
Convergence of media occurs when multiple products come together to form one product with the advantages of all of them.

Technological Convergence
The growing interact use of digital technology in the film industry and media which enables people to shre, consume and produce media that was difficult or impossible just a few year earlier
